16 Handles

16 Handles is an American brand of self-serve frozen yogurt restaurants headquartered in New York City. There are 42 stores in seven states, all on the East Coast.

16 Handles was founded by Solomon Choi, who serves as president and CEO. In July 2008, Choi opened the first 16 Handles store in the East Village in Manhattan, near the New York University dorms. It was the first self-serve frozen yogurt shop in New York, and the success of the self-serve format spawned hundreds of imitators on the East Coast. In November 2009, Choi opened a second location, at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey. After receiving multiple inquires about franchising opportunities, in 2010 the company began expanding through franchising. By early 2011, there were 10 locations, and as of February 2015, there are 40 locations in 6 states.

In June 2014, 16 Handles announced plans to open 150 stores in the Middle East over the next 10 years in a development deal with Abu Issa Marketing and Distribution, with anticipated stores in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

All 16 Handles stores are self-serve, with customers building their own frozen yogurt sundaes and paying by weight. Each location has a rotating roster of 16 frozen yogurt flavors on tap. Flavors include cookies & cream, coffee, fudge brownie, salted caramel, mango, peanut butter, Euro tart, vanilla, chocolate and graham cracker. Over 40 toppings are available, including fruit, candy, syrup, granola, carob chips and yogurt chips. All 16 Handles frozen yogurts are probiotic, and most are also nonfat and gluten-free. Non-dairy sorbet, no-sugar and low-fat options are also available, as well as seasonal menu items, such as a hot cocoa launched in December 2014, and special edition flavors, such as Caramel Popcorn, launched in May 2014 to coincide with the Tony Awards. All of the yogurts and most of the toppings are certified kosher, and some of the locations themselves are certified kosher.

Bomb Pops are a frozen confection currently manufactured by Wells Enterprises. The original flavor contains Cherry, Lime, and Blue Raspberry flavorings. As of 2015, there are 8 main Bomb Pop flavors. The current Bomb Pop flavors are Original, Watermelon, Hawaiian Punch, WARHEADS, Jolly Rancher, Original Sugar Free, Banana Fudge, and Tongue Splashers.

Bomb Pops were invented by James S. Merritt and D.S. Abernethy in Kansas City, Missouri on July 30, 1955. When D.S Abernethy's company Merritt Foods closed down, Wells' Dairy bought the business including Bomb Pops.

In 1999, Stephen Labaton of The New York Times used bombpop.com as an example of why there needs to be new rules to protect children's privacy. Any child that wanted to win a Nintendo Game Boy had to fill out their personal information including their address.

In 2003, The Walt Disney Company made a deal with Wells' Dairy to release Buzz Lightyear Bomb Pops.

Blue Bunny celebrated Bomb Pops' 50th anniversary in 2005 by starting a sweepstakes. The sweepstakes included giving a trip to Disneyland to two winners and giving 50 winners a Game Boy Advance. The 50th anniversary was also the start of National Bomb Pop Day which is celebrated on the last Thursday in June.

Wells Dairy released Sugar Free Bomb Pops that have few calories, few carbohydrates, and no fat. The newspaper Western Kansas Word said that it is a good choice for people with diabetes. The flavor is the original.

While studying architecture at UC Berkeley and then in graduate school at UCLA, co-founder Natasha Case explored a concept she called "Farchitecture", or Food + Architecture. After graduation, she worked as a Disney Imagineer and continued toying with Farchitecture as a hobby—she made cookies and ice cream, and named the combinations after architects. Case met business partner Freya Estreller through friends, who told them they had "the same kind of brain". Estreller liked the idea of architecturally-themed ice cream sandwiches and together they turned the "art project" into a business. Having studied finance at Cornell and worked in real estate development, Estreller helped greatly with financial modeling and business operations.

Coolhaus was founded in April 2009 on the principle of using Farchitecture to "bring architecture to the people". By playfully naming Coolhaus creations after architects and architectural movements, Case hoped to inspire people to talk and learn more about architecture. "We think of ourselves as a marketing company for architects," Case told Architect Magazine. Flavors like "Mintimalism", "Frank Behry", and "Norman Bananas Foster" pay tribute to the Minimalist architectural movement and architects Frank Gehry and Norman Foster. Elsie Stix

Elsie Sticks were plastic ice cream sticks which became useful as an interlocking toy after the ice cream bar was eaten. They were produced in the early 1970s through Borden, Inc., dairy in the United States.

Historically, Elsie Sticks appear to have emerged in the 1950s with U.S. Patent 2,844,910 a construction kit made of wooden ice cream sticks by the Southern Ice Cream Company of Kansas City, MO. This patent was extended in 1972 with U.S. Patent 3,663,717 and U.S. Patent 3,748,778. The new toy design utilized plastic and modified the interlocking stick design.

Elsie Stix were very portable and collectable. Finding Elsie Stix now is very difficult.

Supposedly, Theora Design from Israel, claims to have invented Elsie Stix under a different name. The name of their sticks were Icetix and they were distributed into the US through Borden Dairy.
