Atlantic Garden

The Atlantic Garden was a beer garden and music hall established by William Kramer in 1858 at what is now 50, Bowery, New York City, next to the Bowery Theatre (built in 1826) and on the site of the Bull's Head Tavern, formerly headquarters for New York's cattle market, and the New York Hotel. The premises extended west to a secondary frontage on Elizabeth Street.

The Bowery Theatre was built as a fashionable theater, but by the 1850s it came to cater to immigrant groups; the Germans especially patronized Atlantic Garden, which featured a theater behind the beer hall, where the new entertainment of "variety" acts were presented along with popular music concerts. In 1910, following the neighborhood's changing dynamic, Atlantic Garden switched to presenting Yiddish theatre.

In 2013 structures on the site were razed to make way for a high-rise hotel.

Colonial Gardens

Colonial Gardens is a former entertainment complex located in the Kenwood Hill neighborhood across New Cut Road from Iroquois Park in Louisville, Kentucky. In its early existence, it was a part of Senning's Park, the site of the first zoo in Louisville.

Senning's Park was started in 1902 by a German immigrant to Louisville from Kesse, Germany named Frederick Carl Senning, who immigrated to the city in 1868. Prior to opening the park, he and his wife Minnie founded the Senning Hotel at 2nd and Jefferson in downtown Louisville, as well as the first bowling alley in Louisville, at the corner of 8th and Main, also in downtown.

The park started on two and a half acres owned by Fredrika Oswald before he died. It benefited from being only a block from the loop that electric streetcars used on Fourth Street. Initially it did not have a zoo, but instead focused on dancing and dining; picnics and political rallies were common at the facility.

The zoo was started during the Prohibition era, and barely survived the Great Depression. In 1920, the Sennings' son William began the zoo operations, with his parents going on a trip to Europe. Animals present in the zoo included alligators, bears, deer, exotic birds, leopards, lions, monkeys, ostriches (for riding), and tigers. However, the keep of the exotic animals became expensive, and in 1939 the park was closed due to Frederick Senning's death. The park was sold at auction for $15,000 the following year. The new owner, B. A. Watson, opened a restaurant on the property called Colonial Gardens, and promptly closed the zoo. Its successor, the current Louisville Zoo, would not open until 1969.

Oregon Brewers Festival

imageOregon Brewers Festival

Oregon Brewers Festival (OBF) is a five-day craft beer festival held annually since 1988 at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland, Oregon. OBF has become the most popular outdoor beer festival in North America, based on attendance.

Admission is free, but to sample the festival's beers, attendees must purchase that year's OBF tasting glass as well as $1 beer tokens— each token is good for a sample that has varied in volume over the years, while a "full pour" costs four tokens.

Each brewery brings one beer. OBF also features a root beer garden, which offers free root beer for designated drivers and minors; the latter must be accompanied by a parent.

Live music was introduced in 2001.

In 2005, OBF expanded from a three-day schedule (Friday to Sunday) to four, adding Thursday.

The 2011 Oregon Brewers Festival featured 85 craft beers from 14 states; it attracted 80,000 people over four days. Nearly 2,000 volunteers worked at the festival, selling tokens and pouring beer, among other tasks.

In 2013, OBF added a fifth day, moving the opening to Wednesday; they also replaced the annual plastic mug, which had been used since the festival's beginning, with a tasting glass, which for 2013 costs $7. The previous year's 14-US-fluid-ounce (410 ml) mug was replaced by a 12.8-US-fluid-ounce (380 ml) glass, which reduced the size of a full pour. For 2014, there are 88 beers available, in 30 styles; that does not include the more than 100 available separately in OBF's Specialty Tent.

After two years with tasting glasses made of glass, for 2015, OBF switched to a polycarbonate tasting glass; the change was in response to safety concerns raised by the Portland Police.

In recent years OBF has anchored a month of beer-related festivals in Portland, including the North American Organic Brewers Festival, the Portland International Beerfest, and the Great American Distillers Festival.

Scholz Garten

imageScholz Garten

Scholz Garten (also known as Scholz Beer Garden) is a beer garden and restaurant in downtown Austin, Texas and the oldest operating business in Texas.

Established by German immigrant August Scholz in 1866 after the American Civil War, Scholz Garten became a hub for German immigrants and their culture in the capital city. It was purchased by The Saengerrunde Club in 1914, who still owns it today. It remains a popular gathering spot for both political discussion and University of Texas sports events.

Scholz Garten was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1967, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The business lease was purchased in 1986 by Eddie Wilson (founder of the Armadillo World Headquarters and Threadgill's), Phil Vitek, and Michael Osborne who restored it in 1987.
